Sail Away With Style

This trend is here to stay and perfect for spring and summer. This classic beachy bliss is characterized with stripes, anchors, and sailoresque red white and blues.

Nautical goes beyond the striped shirt, look for a blazer with gorgeous gold buttons to top a solid pair of navy or white bottoms. Throw red in here and there, maybe incorporate yellow for a sunny spin.  Keep it simple and choose one item as your main statement and balance your stripes with solids. Ride this fashion wave this season.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

So you've recently been invited to a dinner party but are unsure of the dress code. You are in a Goldilocks situation, you don't want to over dress and you don't want to under dress.  So how do you approach the situation?

The Cure: The Just Right Option

A simple shift dress is the place to start, black is certainly safe, but sometimes comes off as too formal, if you choose a bright color you can be playful.  Continue to play up the look with accessories, contrast your dress with a statement shoe, tie together with a sparkly clutch and embellish the ensemble with a more formal choice in jewelry.  The look combines dressy and casual in a balance that is just right!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

I love me some riding boots, especially a pair with a bit of a heel! They are great for winter and a great transition piece to spring. Who am I kidding, I wear a riding boot all year long, so of course I'm willing to shell out a bit of extra cash to invest in a fabulous pair! Jil Sander has a beautiful Italian made leather boot with back-zip and snap button.  The snap buttons get me every time, but they dont convince me to spend $1253 on a pair of boots.
Jil Sander, $1253

Luckily my favorite boot company Frye satiates my craving for those simple details.  The Jackie Button boot just oozes commitment to classic.  A pull-on style with decorative buttons on the pull on tabs make this boot workable, wearable, no muss no fuss.  I'm more than willing to shell out $347 for them, but won't even have to do that, if you're lucky you may find them still on sale for $295!

Voulez-vous porter...

I'm not going to lie, one of the trends I'm most looking forward to this Spring is the tres chic look of French Charm! Delicate laces, vintage florals, scalloped hems, and chambray are fluently and fashionably d'insperation fraçaise.

Everything about this look says subtle, sexy, and soft sophistication.  The flow of the fabrics caress any figure with grace and the ease at which they're worn make the look effortless.  Can't you just picture yourself, sipping a latte at a sidewalk cafe with the Eiffel Tower in the background?

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Designers resort collections typically hit the stores and fashion mags in the thick of winter. Why? Well who doesn't want to escape the winter blues for sun and sand and of course you're going to want to look great!  You fall in love with pieces that are perfect for a stroll down the beach, but can they work as you strut your way into the office?

The Cure: Urban Vacation

Bring on the brights! Color is characteristic of resort wear, but if you incorporate it with carefully tailored pieces it can be office appropriate. Start with a basic, like a great black trouser, pair with an office appropriate blouse. Polka dots are one trend, and tucked into high-waisted, wide leg trousers you are spot on.  Now it's time to add the fun.  A bright, contrasting blazer takes this ensemble to the next level.  Add resort ready gems and neutral pumps.  If your feeling exceptionally exotic opt for a neutral reptile pump instead.

I think flats are a great way to transition to Spring, provided there isn't any snow on the ground, and a chic neutral pair capped with white toes are a fool proof choice! Take this pair from Lanvin, the two-tone ballerina flat from the oldest French fashion house combines a classic look with comfort and convenience. The only unappealing thing about these shoes? A mere $645 to own them.

Lanvin

If you're willing to flip flop the colors I'm willing to share a steal with you! Me Too has a very similar pair of ballerina flats with a black capped toe instead of white and the addition of black trim. And since they are just $75 on sale right now are you really willing to walk away? I'm not! Oh I did forget to mention that if you hurry in you can get another 15% off! This deal won't last ladies, grab your pair today!

Spring Sneak Peak

It's only the middle of January but I've already got Spring fever! How do I plan on curing it? With a sneak peak of all things fashion due out this spring! Who better to tell you what to expect thing spring and why than the designer's themselves!

Peter Dundas, Emilio Pucci's creative and artistic director says that "wicker seems so fresh," for handbags. Zac Posen claims that, "tailored silhouettes empower the femme fatale in every woman," and Francisco Costa, Calvin Klein Collection's women's creative director, states that, "the round toe captures elegance; the spike heel offsets it," when talking about this coming seasons hottest shoe, "The season is about balance: soft and hard, classic and modern, beautiful and sexy".  This balance is echoed in the pastel color palette, pleated skirts, basket weave bags, hour glass silhouettes, and pencil heel shoes.  Just the thought of all this wonderfulness warms my heart enough to stick out the rest of winter!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Have your classic pieces taken a backseat to your trendy pieces this season? They are classics for a reason, but that doesn't mean you always have to use them in the same way.  Consider what combining the two could do for your wardrobe, how does it all come together?

The Cure: Contemporary Classic Combo

Spice up your basic trench with color. Red denim radiates against khaki. Top with a neutral and go wild with accessories.  Pull in another bold color with a clutch, go for a patterned shoe, and bold jewelry. You don't have to be matchy matchy, this eclectic style pulls it all together.

So you've finally decided to move on from the Ugg boots to something a bit more sophisticated, but it's important to find something shearling lined to keep your feet toasty and warm.  Let me introduce to you Jimmy Choo's suede shearling lined boot, the best way to beat your winter blues! This suede boot, with an optional plush cuff and simple styling, will take you all the way to spring.  But start thawing that emergency credit card now, these will set you back $1,195.

Jimmy Choo

I can keep you in suede if you're willing to swap shearling for fleece and ensure you a cozy, comfortable winter for your feet. Timberlands Earthkeeper's Avery boot is good for the wallet and your conscious.  The suede is fully waterproof (can't say that for Jimmy Choo) and the fleece is partially recycled, making this shoe not only fashion forward but eco-conscious.  The price...right now just $143!

Go Gaga for Grape

Traditionally purple is the color of royalty, but who say's you can't share the wealth.  While it was reserved for those with power due to it's scarce nature, today this powerful hue is all over the runway.
According to InStyle,
"With its blend of warm(red) and cool(blue) hues, grape complements the undertones in every complexion. 'It's lavish and sensual,' says Angela Missoni, who made liberal use of it in her recent resort collection. Elegant yet never predictable, it works equally well on a sexy zip-front dress or sporty anorak."

It's easy to wear as it can stand on it's own, or can be used as the neutral in your ensemble. It can be combined with the likes of coral, teal, and ivory, strengthening either the red or the blue hue, or dare to contrast it with a spot of yellow.  Metallics are always an easy pairing. However you choose, wear this bright shade with your head held high!

Celebrities love Frye, it is a love that is undeniable, with their numerous styles, there is a fit for everyone! Now while I know Frye boots are expensive, they are still more affordable than any Gucci or Prada boot and are a great investment.

Their versatile styling maintains their classic look as they stand the test of time.  Currently trending are Frye harness boots, great for wearing with jeans, skirts, or dresses. The three straps joined with a ring rings true of their authentic styling. If there is one pair of boots you should have in your closet it should be a pair of Frye's! Hurry in and grab yours before they're all gone.

Up and Coming

So what's trending now in the "resort" fashion collections? Everything's striped! From uniform skinny stripes to a mix and match of skinny and bold, to diagonal, prepare to add it to your closet.
When choosing a strip, don't let yourself fall into the same trap Jessica Simpson did, you remember what I'm talking about, the thick striped, form fitting, tea length dress.  Before I go off on all of the mistakes with that outfit, one of the major things was choosing a stripe that was too bold for her petite frame.  The smaller your stature the smaller your stripe should be.  Are there exceptions, sure if a top has an "accent" stripe, you can totally get away with a bolder stripe, just be sure that your figure isn't swallowed. Accessorize with solids and coordinating hues, and keep things simple, the stripes are stunners on their own.
