Black and Blue

How many times have you been warned against wearing black and blue together? Major fashion faux pas right?  Well this year designers from Carolina Herrara to Marc Jacobs decided to challenge that notion.

This is apparently the "it" color combo of the season.  Seen used together in stripes and patterns.  Try color-blocking with the two shades, or create an entirely new work uniform by layering the two together.  Black layered under navy is really a striking combination.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Are you a trend-a-holic? Do you get excited each new season to see just what new and interesting things are going to hit the runway? Do you try to wear more than one trend at once?  Some may say to stick to one trend at a time, but if you are so enamored with them you can't help yourself there is a way to wear multiple trends at the same time.

The Cure: All-in-one

This look combines girly bows, animal print, and sea-foam green, sounds like a lot is going on, but there is a key way to balance it all.  To start, choose one trend to really standout, in this case, the animal print, then use the other trends in your accessories to give depth to the outfit.  Sea-foam green in a bauble necklace and bow adorned neutral flats offer additional trend without additional chaos.  Remember you want people to see you, not just your outfit.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Temperatures are playing games with our hearts. We know that the closer we get to those beautiful spring months of April and May that temps should slowly but surely be increasing, alas the constant seesaw of up and down is putting a downer on embracing new spring trends. What is a sure fire way to start to add spring to your wardrobe despite the temper tantrum the weather is having?

The Cure: Terrific Trenches!
This femme trench jacket from Antrhopologie is a perfect transition piece for spring. Wear it over an urbane shift with tights and add a contrasting statement necklace for an extra element of spring.  Ankle booties, like these from Colclico are the cream of the crop when it comes to a chic, modern look.

Side Effects: Totally ok to get stuck in the rain, hopefully Mother Nature won't stick you in the snow.

Spring Trend Sneak Peek

While we are still in the thick of winter, spring looks will be making their way to the retail world before we know it.  In an effort to keep you prepared for what's to come I wanted to share with you some of the things to be on the lookout for this spring.  InStyle's spread in January's issues is the perfect place to start.

This coming season designers are looking to classic YSL for inspiration with a nod to "emphatic color, elegantly cut jackets, and full shapes." Prep for a more tailored look with your denim as the trouser and high waist versions are set to be big this season.  Your feet will appreciate the surge in the wedge with styles from structural, strappy, sporty, and colorful are sprouting all over the runways.  Fringe and the Western look will continue to have a strong presence, loose fitting silhouettes with "silky, comfortably sleek dresses" will take over from body hugging styles, exotic floral prints with Asian influences will help you make statements this spring.

That 70's Style

"Come and knock on our door, we've been waiting for you", and we're primed to prep you for this fall's 1970's invasion.  The 1970's has influenced dressing this fall.  Luxe silk bow blouses and high-waisted wide-leg trousers graced runways from Chloe to Gucci in hopes of bringing out a more sensual side of power fashion while bell-bottoms, faux fur, oversized glasses, and the ever popular clog channeled the more laid-back vibe we love. Add just one of these easy to wear pieces to your wardrobe and you can take a tiny step back in time all the while staying current.

Trend Watch Fall 2010

On the hunt for the latest trends in fall footwear? Be on the lookout for the following styles in order to keep your wardrobe up to date!

Over The Knee boots: the OTK look will give you drama without the catfight. Go for a flat boot with a skinny cord during the day, or a heeled version with a mini for a night out on the town.

Clogs: Boho chic is back, give your outfit a modern yet retro vibe, a great style+comfort combo.

Oxfords: Preppy is in, so is menswear inspired, many of these looks are adding feminine touches, like lace, so you really can have the best of both worlds.

Loafers: This classic is showing up all over runways this fall, but you might notice something different. Designers are upgrading this polished look with thicker heels, bright colors, and unique details.

Shortie Boots and Shooties: Chunky heels, fold over tops, embellished stilettos, cut outs, buckles, buttons, studs, with infinite options you can't go wrong pairing the shortie boot and/or shootie with tights and a skirt, leggings and a chunky sweater (my fave for fall!) or with a great pair of skinny jeans!

Stilettos: This sexy stunner is here to stay, but designers are constantly giving new life to the style that oozes sex appeal, which lets us breath new life into our LBDs! This layered lace look from Pour La Victoire adds a rich, lady-like, textural elegance that will make your feet the center of attention.
