Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

With New Year's Eve only days away you are probably planning that perfect party outfit, including a statement shoe!  Well Jimmy Choo has quite a stunner. I think that this golden glittered platform pump will set off any ensemble.  The glittered fabric exudes glitz and glam but is subtly textured making it appropriate for day or night! The price? Only $795, perfect! Only she says...HA! I'm right there with, not looking so versatile after all.
Jimmy Choo, $795

Well if the Jimmy Choo's aren't an option and you're now determined to find a glitzy textured pump let me introduce you to a pair from Charles David.  These shoes shimmer with every stride! The bolder hue may not work as well for day, but these pumps are positively irresistible, who can say no to glitz and glam on New Year's Eve, or an additional 15% off the already reduced $97 price tag...hurry before they're gone!

Pining for Prints

I don't know about you, but I currently have a holiday hangover! Now is the time between Christmas and New Years to enjoy all of your new fashionable goodies, but in a much more casual state before the big bash!

Take a simple trend, like a great winter print and run wild, but keep it simple. How do you manage that? Go for a bold and bright print that really stands out, but keep everything else subdued. This winter most prints are echoing fabulous florals, perhaps in anticipation for spring and new blooms.  Choose a great printed blouse, a great pair of jeans, a great pair of shoes and you should be good to go!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

We have reached the point of no return, if you're holiday shopping isn't done yet, you only have a few days left, which also means you only have a few days to figure out what you're going to wear.  If your day is anything like mine you are either bebopping from party to party or you're the host of the festivities.  Either way you want to look your best and be able to last throughout the day.

The Cure: Haute Holiday

I hope you trust me when I say you can be cute and comfortable in a dress all day! While I'm not in favor of combining red and green together, I do think red is a great accent for the day! A polka dot dress is fun and festive, top it with a little ladylike cardigan in case you catch a chill. Go all out with your accessories, curling ribbon ring, graduated beads, and red red pumps!

Have you been aching for that perfect ankle bootie? Well this suede option from Vivienne Westwood is sure to win you over.  With a somewhat scalloped opening, strap around the back, and silver tone heart shaped buckle, your own heart will be singing with glee for this fabulously feminine footwear. But, retailing for $650 may change your heart's tune.
Vivienne Westwood, $650
Would your heart sing if I told you I had a less feminine looking, but equally stylish and sassy pair of ankle booties? I know mine would! Sam Edelman's Loni is a great compromise with it's suede upper, strap around the back, and buckle accent at the heel strap.  While the heel may be heftier, stacked heels have been favored this fall! At just $159 your heart won't just be singing but leaping for joy!

Party Perfection

With so many of falls trends bleeding into the holidays it's hard to misstep when choosing your perfect party dress.  Bold gemstone colors like ruby, emerald, and sapphire, touches of lace, sparkle, shine, and a little bit of blocking are all fool proof choices!
Choose your accessories wisely, choose a daring and desirable pump  to go with a simple dress, or something more subtle to pair with a metallic print. Any festive frock is going to be a winner and you will surely be the toast of the town.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Whether by car or plane, bus or train, it's pretty safe to say that you may be traveling some where over the holidays. But just because you might be spending a day on the road doesn't mean you can't do it with style.

The Cure: En Route Ensemble
It is totally appropriate to grab your favorite pair of lived in and loved denim, but add some spunk.  Team your denim with layers of stripes and polka dots in bright colors, and if your choice of denim is a looser fit, make sure your layers aren't too baggy.  Throw on a great pair of flats and a cute hat and you're ready to hit the road.  Truth be told you never know who you might run into, better look your best!

The holidays are a time to let loose and indulge a little, sweet treats, blingy baubles, and of course fancy footwear.  Fancy does not always mean delicate though, ever thought about a luxurious pair of fur-trimmed lace up ankle boots? Pleasurable and plush the fur adds the perfect accent to this Robert Clergerie boot. Natural rabbit and suede with ribbon laces soften the thick heel and lugged rubber sole.  At $850, they are the ultimate in indulgence, but even if my budget could swing this sticker, I think I would picture that cute little bunny every time I laced them up.

Robert Clergerie, $850
Thank goodness for fabulousness that is good for the budget and the soul.  The "Barnesicle" by Gentle Souls provides the indulgence and plushness of the Clergerie boot but with a shearling cuff instead of rabbit and a $280 sale price.  Pair with a lady-like look for contrast and interest and furnish your feet in luxury.
Gentle Souls, $280

Holiday 101 The LRD

Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy brought us the little black dress, affectionately known as the LBD, this summer we saw a surge in the little white dress, and with the holidays on our doorstep there is no better time to introduce the little red dress!

Perfect for the season, stick to darker shades and tailored silhouettes for day, switch to your bright hues that are short and sweet for night.  Accessorize with metallics and animal prints but let the red make the statement!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Looking our best when going out seems to be the thing we're most concerned about when we are in a wardrobe conundrum, but what about those moments when we stay in, the moments that could be caught on camera, especially ones where we might have just rolled out of bed? I'm talking about Christmas morning girls, and we deserve to look just as good staying in as we do stepping out.

The Cure: So long long johns, hello loungewear!

There is nothing that says you can't put on a pair of ballet flats instead of slippers, and once you put on real shoes, you'll want to put on real clothes.  Loungewear has come a long way, "sweatpants" are cut closer to the body so they are much more slimming and chic.  Pair them with a simple white tee, a tartan plaid button down for festiveness and and infinity scarf to accessorize.  You are cute, comfy, AND camera ready!

Disclaimer: A great outfit won't necessarily hide bedhead or circles under your eyes, pull your hair back in a messy pony tail and put on a little concealer so you look fresh and well rested!

Who doesn't love a bootie with a bow?!? Something that is certainly a staple during the holiday season has to be the Valentino pearl-trim suede bootie.  The classic suede bootie is accented with cultured freshwater pearls which may come off as opulent but doesn't look over the top.  What puts this shoe over the edge has to be the $895 price tag.
Valentino, $895

While this bootie may not have fresh water pearl trim, it does have a cute bow on the back that maintains your lady like look and adds a bit of fun.  The "Nalini" from Libby Edelman is a blue suede bootie, complete with bow accent and is perfect for adding that pop of color to your holiday ensemble.  Best of all, no need to worry about going over the edge, this bootie is priced at just $94 ($65 if you catch it while it's on sale!)

Let me see your Peacock...

Peacock blue, what a magical and mesmerizing hue, and certainly one to love, InStyle magazine explains why,
"Neither as business like as navy nor as regal as royal, this ultra-saturated shade lends a feeling of relaxed opulence to body-hugging dresses and office-appropriate separates."
With a description like that I just want to bathe in the beautiful color.  According to Kate Smith from sensationalcolor.com, those who love the color are curious, intuitive, and kind.

The color is complimented with cool neutrals like silver and gray, but consider adding a dark purple or orange-tinted red for intensity.  This look can be pulled of monochromatically but don't be afraid to play with separates.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

The holidays are fast approaching which means parties galore, but with hosts ranging from your boss to your future in-laws it's no wonder you might be mulling what it is you can wear to each event.  First stop, the office party...you want to look cute and festive, but the after work event is well, right after work, and there is no way that sexy lbd that you'd hope may catch cubicle #4's eye is going to fly in the workplace.

The Cure: Holiday 101

A pencil skirt keeps things "suitable" and sexy giving your shape a nice silhouette, choose a brighter color to show your holiday spirit.  A simple silk blouse with a slightly ruffled collar keeps the look primp and proper, but once you throw on a cropped lace jacket you add some flair and festivity.  Accessorize with a strappy heel and an embellished cuff that is fun and funky and this look with take your from cubicle to cocktails with ease.

Who loves a great basic?!? I do, I do, especially one I can wear with pretty much everything. Never to disappoint Giuseppe Zanotti's round toe nappa leather pump is a basic worth investing in.  The classic silhouette and moderate heel are a perfect compliment to any outfit.  With a $550 price tag it's a shoe that I would definitely consider purchasing, but deep down I think there may be something better.
Giuseppe Zanotti, $550

Enter Corso Como's Delicious pump! Same classic round toe and moderate heel and I know from experience that they are super comfortable. Regularly $123, but priced currently at $104 these are a steal and a must make purchase!

Merry Metallics

With gold having been a hot trend this fall it makes sense that metallics would carry into the holidays. Sequins, metallic knits, matte, and shiny all put the luxe in luxurious.  Shine on this holiday season.

Silver, bronze, and shades of color are all welcome to this metallic party.  I recommend choosing one bold piece, or muted coordinating pieces, a little shine goes a long way!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Ok ladies today is the day, Black Friday, the annual shop till you drop post Thanksgiving craze.  What it means is that more likely than not you will be spending most of your day in a dressing room trying on fabulous clothes that you're going to get fabulous deals on.  The most important thing to remember about dressing for today, easy on easy off, it will make your dressing room experience that much less stressful!

The Cure: Simple Shopping Chic

My first suggestion is going to be black leggings, lets not kid ourselves, after a day full of eating our denim may not be that comfortable. Wear a pair with something extra, like a zipper up the back, to give your look edge. Next, go for a ponch sweater, it will save you from carrying a jacket around and keep you warm.  I like this one because it cinches at the waist, layer it over a simple long sleeve white tee, or an embellished one if you think you might lose the poncho later in the day. As for shoes, you might be surprised, but I'm going to suggest a wedge, the heel height is comfortable for all day wear, they slide on and off quickly, and probably give your arches more support than a pair of flats.

Remember while you're shopping today to save some of your energy to shop Small Business Saturday!!!

Are you looking for something fun and funky this season? How about the Pasha from 3.1 Phillip Lim.  This pointed toe pump with thin throat will certainly give your ensemble some edge.  The only drawback, I have a really hard time spending a significant sum on a pair that I may only get one season out off, and I think $395 is a bit pricey for this pair.

3.1 Phillip Lim, $395

If you're digging the pointy toe with thin throat Jeffrey Campbell has a similar option, with a heel that I actually prefer to the Phillip Lim.  The Keebler has a very likable wedge heel and at only $134 I would be willing to take a risk on this risque pair.

With-it Wilderness

Have you seen snow yet? Maybe you have maybe you haven't but it may be high time to break out the parka.  That big bulky coat does so much for your figure right?  Well it is possible to have a look that keeps you heated and looking hot!

First and foremost this is not a look for the office, there is a reason these pieces are outdoorsy, consider this for running around on the weekends.  If you know it's going to be cold and you'll be spending a great deal of time outdoors, don't be afraid to layer.  If it's a quick jaunt from the car to the boutique, maybe just one rugged accessory will do.   Fairisle and cable-knit are great patterns and texture, but have  the down fall of appearing bulky, make sure to balance with dark solid clothing, skinny jeans and leggings work best.  The best part of this look...the boots, you can't go wrong no matter what you choose!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

With Thanksgiving less than a week away you are probably pondering what to wear to the most festive dinner party of the year. While wanting to dress to impress you also want to be comfortable enough to maybe have that second piece of pie at the end of the night. So what to wear?

The Cure: Thanksgiving Trend-setting

Now normally I would probably suggest a shift dress, something cute and stylish but also flattering for the expectant expanding waistline, but this year I'm thinking of taking a risk. How luxe are these velvet leggings ?!? They are the perfect substitute for the shift. Pair them with an embellished silk blouse and pretty pumps for a flawlessly festive look.

While very popular during summer, wedges are for all seasons! Why should we neglect the height and comfort a wedge provides just because it gets colder? Granted I'm not talking about the great strappy wedge sandals you rocked all last season, but about a new and improved wedge.  Christian Louboutin knows what I'm talking about with the Morphing wedge.  The leather round toe wedge pump with scooped bottom combines basic sophisticated style with the heel that makes feet happy. Aren't you wiling to shell out $695 for a beautiful basic?

Christian Louboutin, $695

If you aren't, you aren't alone, which is why you should check out Corso Como's Lancaster wedge.  This round toe leather pump with scooped wedge makes your feet feel like they are walking on clouds. Oh did I mention the best part...$144, so satisfying in so many ways!

Dip into Dots

Do you dare to don a deluge of dots?!? Wow try saying that 10 times fast! Back on topic, polka dots are coming on strong but whether you choose a lot or a little this is a print that will add some punchiness to your poise.
Black and white and red all over or just a pinch will give your look a little playfulness.  If going with an all over polka dot look my advice is to choose a smaller dot in a traditional black and white, but if you really want to add panache choose an accessory piece to up the ante.  A change purse, gloves, scarf, or the right pair of pumps will highlight this nostalgic print and your personality.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Tie neck blouses, flared denim, and 70's esque style is quite a sought after style this season, but it's important to make sure you are current. So how do you incorporate the chic, carefree vibe without taking yourself back in time?

The Cure: Trendy to Timeless

I may or may not mention the importance of keeping things modern, but period inspired looks can go just as quickly as they come. Keeping things somewhat modern helps your style outlive the trend timeline.  A pair of dark denim flares will forever be in style as well as flattering for any shape.  As far as the blouse goes, by picking the right kind of pattern and color you can transition this top between work and play, getting more life out of it.  The shapes of these items are seventies inspired but with the right pattern and colors they become timeless.  Your accessories will help you take the look further in whichever direction you choose without having to be a major investment.  The heeled loafer is hot this season, but go a bit more basic and again extend the life of your look.  Jewelry can always be fun and funky!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

I was watching an old episode of Sex in the City the other night and found myself salivating at all of the shoes that adorned Carrie Bradshaw's feet.  As a Manolo Blahnik buff I'm sure that she would have the Blixa in her closet.  The alligator pump with a pointed toe and open vamp seem like the one of kind styles that would have a special place in her closet.  I wish they could have a special place in mine, but $4600 is quite a pipe dream.
Manolo Blahnik, $4600

Which is why I'm glad that Sam Edelman has a reptile pump that is in my price range.  The "Portney" pump is a mock croc leather with a pointed toe and slender heel is the perfect substitue for the Manolo.  The price is also nice, $114 is a dream come true!

Sophisticate School Girl

If you're looking to strike a balance between conservative, cute, and comfortable for you day to day wear have you considered the charming and coy influences of the chic 50's school girl?

Simple pieces with simple embellishments add just enough allure to make this look attract attention.  A coat with toggles has a somewhat vintage vibe while a skirt with a scalloped hem has a sweet appeal. You can never go wrong with a standard cable knit sweater and cat eye glasses are an enchanting extra.  Modernize your loafer with a wedge and highlight a lady like dress with a patterned lady like pump.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Are you debating whether or not to move your dresses out of current rotation now that the weather is waning?  Do not, I repeat, do not move those dresses anywhere, there is no reason you can't stretch them into another season.  Whether maxi or mini there is always an outfit to originate!

The Cure: Bring on Boho!

This look takes a printed maxi dress and layers with a faux fur vest while belting underneath to define the waistline.  Simple accessories like a pendant necklace or bangle give it a little bit of sparkle.  Break out the booties to keep your feet feeling fashionable.  If it's too chilly to brave a bare leg you can always add a favorite pair or tights!  Winter, spring, summer, or fall you can always pull off a dress, accessories and all!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

The platform loafer has become a popular pick this fall, adding a little school girl charm to any look.  Who better to bring you such a chic creation than designer Nicholas Kirkwood.  The leather platform peep-toe with tassels and loafer details at the toe captures the charm of a loafer with a sophisticated edge.  It, however, does not capture the heart of my wallet with it's $995 price.

Nicholas Kirkwood, $995
Nicholas Kirkwood may have a lovely loafer but Restricted has a similar shoe with alluring appeal.  This platform loafer may not have a peep-toe but with similar details and a posh plaid lining you can get all the charm of the Kirkwood design without the cost.  These cuties are just $64!

Pop of Pink

Pink can be a potent pop of color when put on display, obviously brighter than any blush, demonstrating your brave possibly brazen fashion choices.
"Also know as fuchsia, it's an ultra-feminine hue that suggests strength, savvy, and self-assurance...and it's all but guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.  Done right, it's cool, not cute." -InStyle, November 2011

When wearing this hot hue keep your silhouettes and shapes feminine but tone it down by adding neutrals. You can opt for an all-over look or block it with oranges, reds, navys, grays, or blacks.  Accessorize with gold, brass, or animal.  Keep with whatever you're comfortable, but shake it up with a shock of pink!

Friday, October 28, 2011

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

I often find that when the temperatures start to decrease I end up wearing more black and gray.  Could be a reflection of my mood with the cold, could be my subconscious thinking for some reason these colors will keep me warmer, whatever it is, this year I'm going to try to break the habit!

The Cure: Go Bright or Go Home!

Now I'm not saying to eliminate blacks and grays all together, they really are the foundation of any good wardrobe, but they need to be brightened up.  Find a pair of colored denim in a color that you're comfortable with and block it with a complimenting shade.  In this particular outfit we have a bright blue and green.  Use your black as a balancing piece as seen in the blazer and clutch, but throw another color into the mix in your shoe for contrast.

Disclaimer: Try not to color block with more than 3 colors otherwise you might start to look like a clown.
Neutrals don't count.

Sometimes Lady Luck is on your side and you find an amazing shoe that is not only currently on trend, but should stay on trend for a lifetime.  Take for instance Guiseppe Zanotti's metallic snakeskin round toe pump, the shape is classic, reptile prints always add a subtle edge, and there is always a use for a great metallic shoe.  The only problem is Lady Luck missed the mark on the price, $650 isn't a lucky deal.

Guiseppe Zanotti, $650

So in steps Sam Edelman! Round toe pump?...Check.  Reptile print?...Check. Metallic...Check.  Affordable?...Check!!! Lady Luck is still on your side, at just $94 you can have all the glitz and glam of the  Zanotti shoe but at a fraction of the price!
