Trending: Spring Booties

It's finally Spring!! Well, that's what the calender says anyway.  It's that time of the year where you aren't really sure whether to put on your tall boots or t-strap sandals. Spring/Summer booties are great to have in your closet for those days that are teetering on the line between warm and cold. Or maybe you have just waited far too long to get a pedicure and are not ready to show off your toes. If any of this sounds like your current self, a good pair of transitional booties is just what you need! Wear them with your summer dresses instead of sandals to give your outfit a whole new vibe. This is a perfect option for festivals and other outdoor events when you want a little more coverage and support, without sacrificing any style. Another look we love for early Spring is booties with jeans. Pair western inspired booties like the Frye boots featured with cuffed boyfriend jeans for a tomboy look.

Perfectly Perforated

Perforations are having a major moment this Spring, from the runways of top designers to local boutiques and family-owned businesses. Designers like Rebecca Taylor and Alexander Wang are showing off this trend in perforated leather ankle booties and punctured paneled tops. This is one of our favorite looks for the season, especially in footwear-- make a more covered style breathable for the warmer months ahead with punctured or laser cut details! Here is our take on perforated style from all your favorite designers here at Poppy & Stella, including Hobo the Original, Jeffrey Campbell, Me Too and more!

Me Too perforated bootie, $164
Jeffrey Campbell lace up bootie, $185
Born mango flats, $90
Hobo mini cross body, $98

Whether you like to keep it neutral or prefer a bolder color palate, we can help you find your perfect perforated piece for Spring 2014! Even more styles to come!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Are you a trend-a-holic? Do you get excited each new season to see just what new and interesting things are going to hit the runway? Do you try to wear more than one trend at once?  Some may say to stick to one trend at a time, but if you are so enamored with them you can't help yourself there is a way to wear multiple trends at the same time.

The Cure: All-in-one

This look combines girly bows, animal print, and sea-foam green, sounds like a lot is going on, but there is a key way to balance it all.  To start, choose one trend to really standout, in this case, the animal print, then use the other trends in your accessories to give depth to the outfit.  Sea-foam green in a bauble necklace and bow adorned neutral flats offer additional trend without additional chaos.  Remember you want people to see you, not just your outfit.

All-American

With it being Memorial Day I felt it was only appropriate to highlight a patriotic spirit in this morning's blog.  With the cookouts and sales going on (don't forget about ours) it's easy to look past the real meaning of today.  So why not show your support through your style!

All-American style is incredibly easy to pull off with just red, white, and blue, but to avoid looking like a walking flag I wouldn't recommend pairing all three together at once. Stripes and star patterns are also acceptable and maybe even throw in a little black for contrast.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

What to wear, what to wear, well that's what I'm here for isn't it?  Do you ever have those days where you feel a little quirky and you want to bring that out through your style? Well that's how I'm feeling today and that's where my inspiration stems from.

The Cure: Off-beat Beautiful

So I decided to combine trends again this week with polka dots, chambray, and colored denim in a preppy meets kooky look, whether or not you think it works all has to do with the confidence you carry yourself with. Most everything,  except the jeans, can be considered neutrals so why not add a pop of color!  Adding specific accessories will meld your look with a certain style, which is why I went for pearls and bows.  They up the prep factor.  Sweet and sassy all in one!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

I think flats are a great way to transition to Spring, provided there isn't any snow on the ground, and a chic neutral pair capped with white toes are a fool proof choice! Take this pair from Lanvin, the two-tone ballerina flat from the oldest French fashion house combines a classic look with comfort and convenience. The only unappealing thing about these shoes? A mere $645 to own them.

Lanvin

If you're willing to flip flop the colors I'm willing to share a steal with you! Me Too has a very similar pair of ballerina flats with a black capped toe instead of white and the addition of black trim. And since they are just $75 on sale right now are you really willing to walk away? I'm not! Oh I did forget to mention that if you hurry in you can get another 15% off! This deal won't last ladies, grab your pair today!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

Ok so now that it is officially well after Labor Day, I am going full force into Fall Fashion.  One of my basic necessities for fall is a fab flat and boy did I find a truly fabulous one.  The Jimmy Choo "Wigmore" is more than just a flat, it is the be it and end all of cute, coquettish, ballerina street-wear.  The patent leather is perfection and the cap toe complete with logo adds just the right amount of contrast.  Of course I'm not sure any amount of contrast is worth $450.

Jimmy Choo, $450

On the other hand, Me Too has an similar style that doesn't make you a walking advertisement.  Instead of a cap toe, this flirty little flat has a great braided chain to break up the patent leather.  Best of all, this price is a huge contrast to those pricey Jimmy Choo's, for just $88 I get my ballerina street-wear for running around town without running out of cash!

Fall Shoe Report

New styles are pouring in daily, be sure to check out all the latest and greatest, including new trends for Fall.  Keep your eyes peeled for platform loafers, ankle wedges, pointy ankle boots, flat ankle boots (are you seeing a pattern!) stacked heel boots, flat knee-high boots, pointy flats, and sling-back bow pumps.  Girly with a twist seems to be the trendsetter this season.  Keep checking back for new styles, here are just a few.
Wowza! Black suede and tan wood make a striking pair. $139

Tall heels aren't grabbing all the attention this season. These little pumps give quite a punch with their metallic sparkle and sophisticated cut. The elastic lining ensure that they'll fit like a glove, too. $144

Not only is this wooden heeled, lace-up bootie good-looking, but it's also made eco-conscious materials and premium sheep suede. $128

Must be worn with bright red lipstick. $46

A new color and toe adornment on the ever popular pump. This shoe looks fantastic with dresses, narrow cut pants, jeans... $107

A classic and comfortable black leather wedge. $99

American Classic

When I think of American Classic, I think about Ralph Lauren, the Kennedy's, Martha's Vineyard, Lauren Hutton, Katharine Hepburn, and most notably Jackie O.  This sense of style is timeless and effortless and yet not the easiest to master.  For some the simplicity isn't enough and they want to add something extra special, but this look is less about the clothes and more about you.

Keep to classic tailored lines and a subtle color palette of navy, white, red, and tan.  The sharp contrasts when combining these colors is enough to make you stick out, but not in the sore thumb kind of way. If you must add something to create interest, a stripe within this color family is best.  The clothes should fit, nothing should be too tight or too loose.  Keep accessories to a minimum. A neutral shoe or boot and simple gold accents are just enough to accentuate the look.  Less really is more, let your personality shine through.

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

Why is it that Yves Saint Laurent always seems to have a perfectly polished pump.  This platform peep-toe has the ability to put you on a pedestal.  With the softly sculptured heel and a clean, classic look, there is nothing you can't wear with this shoe. Quite possibly the ultimate power pump. Alas, the $720 price isn't very practical.
YSL, $720
However Me Too has a pump that can rival this seemingly sublime shoe.  With a similarly sculpted heel, this shoe is sans platform but has a lightly cushioned footbed for comfort.  Still clean and classic and cost effective around $100.

Cobalt Craze

How about a new hot hue for spring? Cobalt blue has been seen all over the runways from Mulberry to Rachel Roy.  Why is is so great you might ask?  According to InStyle Magazine,
" 'Cobalt is the new black!' declares Mulberry creative director Emma Hill.  Brighter than navy, deeper than royal blue, it adds a splash to everything from Ts to silky dresses".
Cobalt can be worked into your wardrobe quite easily this season. It easily pairs well with white, lemon, and lilac.  For a bolder look add a dash of turquoise.  Accessorize with gunmetal  or silver jewelry and go neutral with your footwear for a look that is sleek and chic.
"When going with monochromatic cobalt, avoid frills in favor of clean, sleek lines.  Nude tones can be an understated extra. 'Cobalt is a shade that works with denim too,' says Hill, who chose slightly darker indigo boots for a "color-dipped effect" at her recent show".

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

As new things are starting to make their appearances in stores you are feeling a bit excited. You want to take one of spring's trends out for a spin but are apprehensive about going taking the corner at too fast a pace.  Patterns are becoming bolder, colors brighter, hems longer, and waistlines higher, in which direction do you go?

The Cure: Rising Waistlines

When the fit is right and there aren't any cargo front pockets and cheetah print belts to draw attention to potential problem areas (a la Jessica Simpson mom jeans) a high waisted trouser jean is incredibly flattering, classic, and chic. Go for a tailored look with a crisp white button down shirt, tucked in and belted, a chunky statement necklace, and black suede wedges or try a more girly look with a printed dolman top, gold hoop earrings, and a great platform pump. With the right pair of jeans, the possibilities are endless.

Side Effect: I can not caution you enough about how important it is to find the right style and fit for a high waisted trouser jean, I don't think the world of fashion can handle another Jessica Simpson like faux pas.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

So you planned a Saturday brunch date, you have also planned a Friday night of partying.  It would be easy to throw on just anything but now is the time to fight your fatigue and step it up a notch. Yes you can be chic on Saturday morning and all it takes are a few simple pieces.

The cure: Saturday Step Up
Start with a comfortable pair of skinny jeans or jeggings, pair with a simple pullover sweater in a rich color.  Add interest by throwing on a structured cape patterned cardigan, simple, yet colorful accessories, little heels like these booties from Me Too that have a great ruffle detail and a structured tote.  Casual, comfortable and chic!

Side Effects: Stepping out on a Saturday morning in an outfit like this will only add style and sophistication points to your wardrobe, just be sure to balance the structure, volume on top and bottom will just swallow you up.
