Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

It's New Year's eve and you're ready to bid 2010 a fond farewell and welcome 2011 with open arms. The plans are made, the dress code is set and you want to do it in style. Now is the time to pull out all the stops, no risk, no reward, no glitz, no glory.

The Cure: Take your LBD to the next level!

A little sparkle never hurt anyone, but too much of a good thing could have you looking like a disco ball.  Go with an LBD that has a little bit of embellishment, something like this dress with embellished shoulders, then use your accessories to go all out.  Chunky jeweled cuffs and earrings create drama and interest, don't be afraid to use them to add color as well.  Choose a clutch that's fun and flirty, a great way to add personality to your look and another great way to incorporate color.  As for the shoes, yep time to shine, an embellished pair, like these from Jeffrey Campbell will have you dancing your way out of 2010 right into 2011.

Be Stylish, Be Safe, and worry about the side effects tomorrow, Happy New Year!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

While continuing my quest for the perfect pair of Louboutins to induge in I stumbled upon these, the Tinazata. Barney's describes Louboutin saying,
"Prepare to make a statement while doning the signature red sole of a Christian Louboutin. Working closely with the risqué burlesque show Folies Bergère, Louboutin became well acquainted with the seduction of a women's shoe and carried that with him to create an empire. From a fierce, towering pump to an everyday flat, Louboutin's array of styles never ceases to impress and fits every woman's personality."
If ever there were a shoe that might bring these words to life, the Tinazata just may be it.  Ruched suede peep toe ankle boot with low platform, cut-out sides and back zip, 120mm heel, just sizzling! Barney's even has them on sale right now for only $839, as sexy and epitomizing as these may be, that's not a price that will fit my bill, *sigh*.
Christian Louboutin, Tinazata, $839

If you're looking for a sexy suede peep toe ankle boot or shootie with a low platform, cut-out sides and back zip, Matiko might have the shoe for you. Sexy and sleek and just $169 (possibly on sale too!) Could be the perfect shoe for your New Year's party outfit.

Spring Trend Sneak Peek

While we are still in the thick of winter, spring looks will be making their way to the retail world before we know it.  In an effort to keep you prepared for what's to come I wanted to share with you some of the things to be on the lookout for this spring.  InStyle's spread in January's issues is the perfect place to start.

This coming season designers are looking to classic YSL for inspiration with a nod to "emphatic color, elegantly cut jackets, and full shapes." Prep for a more tailored look with your denim as the trouser and high waist versions are set to be big this season.  Your feet will appreciate the surge in the wedge with styles from structural, strappy, sporty, and colorful are sprouting all over the runways.  Fringe and the Western look will continue to have a strong presence, loose fitting silhouettes with "silky, comfortably sleek dresses" will take over from body hugging styles, exotic floral prints with Asian influences will help you make statements this spring.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go...and we want to look festive without looking foolish. No ugly Christmas sweaters for you this year, be courageous and trade last years look in for something charming and current.

The cure: Luxe and Ladylike

This silk bubble skirt is tucked and pleated with the appearance of a beautifully wrapped present, pair with a slightly embellished top, and keep warm with tights and a wool riding jacket with delicately ruched shoulders. Dripping with girly charm, the ankle bootie from Poetic Licence, adorned with floral accent and pretty patterned heel, tops off this picture perfect look.

Side effects: Watch out for party goers trying to unwrap your pleasing and pleasant "present" look.

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

Guiseppe Zanotti has a "keen awareness for quality, refined sensibility, and creativity".  This ability keeps his collections fresh and,

"Women from naughty to nice can appreciate such fine craftsmanship, while stepping out in a killer set of heels".
                            -Barneys
These studded ankle boots with a suede tapered toe and crystal studded heels are sure to catch any fashionista's eye. They are a steal at $1360 or rather something you might be tempted to steal with a price tag like that. To be honest, I'm pretty sure there are very few who could pull these off with an orange jumpsuit.

Guiseppe Zanotti, $1360
The real steal comes from Bernardo with their removable studded cuff ankle boot. You're getting two shoes for the price of one and a fraction of the cost of the Zanottis. Wouldn't you rather flaunt these out on the town than from behind bars?!?
Bernardo, $193

What's black and white and red all over?

Your first answer might be a newspaper, but what I'm really talking about is a popular and classic color combo that has been making it's presence known this season.  Playing with red can be like playing with fire, so pairing it with basics like black and white takes the guess work out of it.  Mix and match tops and bottoms for balance or go with one statement red piece and keep the others basic.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Heading home for the holidays? Maybe a visit to meet the parents? You want to dress to impress but want a look that is appropriate and won't cause daytime drama. My plan of attack, less is more, simple shapes and silhouettes will come off as sophisticated and put together.  Use your accessories to showcase your personality, just remember a little goes a long way.

The Cure: Parents love me!

Start with a simple belted shirt dress, flattering for all body types.  Grab a knit cardigan for warmth, something with a little volume is totally acceptable.  Add a pop of color with your handbag, keep your jewelry simple, and then allow your shoes to be your conversation starter, so long as you don't go overboard, you're sure to make a splash of an impression.

Side effects: Be mindful of the shoes you choose, make sure they highlight the best parts of your personality, those sexy stilettos you wore out the night before may be a bit much at first. Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Color Combo Craze

Want to know how to bring your wardrobe out of its winter wear blues? Try brightening up your day with a fresh and fierce color combination, poppy orange with pale pink. I know what you might be thinking, but designers like Derek Lam, Jenni Kayne, and Matthew Williamson embraced it on the runway.  Lucky Magazine suggests anchoring your outfit with the darker hue and incorporating textured and drapey white elements.  Go neutral with shoes and accessories.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Decided to have a decorating party did you? Invited that cute guy you've been crushing on, right? Hoping to catch him under the mistletoe? I bet you are! Tricky to plan an outfit that is appropriate for the occasion though, on one hand it's a party, on the other, you're decorating, and depending on how many ornaments you plan to put on your tree you could be doing work for a while.  You want to dress to impress, but be laid back at the same time.

The cure: Draped & Slouchy

Anthropologie created this outfit to be relaxed and comfortable but still accent your best assets.  The soft pullover "takes a new twist on the cozy winter warmer", layer it over the plaid button down to give the outfit interest while wearing it with straight-legged denim that hug your curves in all the right places.  Pair the ensemble with a basic suede bootie, like this one from Sam Edelman and accessorize with warm earth tones.

Side effects: You look so warm and inviting that looking in the mirror will make you want to cuddle up with yourself, make sure you wrap your arms around that someone special.

Looking for the perfect party shoe, the one that will leave them speechless and standing with applause as you walk through the door?  Look no further, Christian Louboutin has the answer for you!   The satin platform peep toe with crystalized butterfly strass vamp is quite possibly the "it" shoe for any LBD. For only $1995 you can make this dream, reality. Simply stunning right, the star of the show?!?
Christian Louboutin, Margi Diams Strass, $1995
If your willing to compromise, as I usually am, I have an understudy of a shoe that will suit those LBDs and give a stellar performance.  This sparkly suede heel t-strap from Jeffrey Campbell emulates all of the same qualities as the Louboutin without being scene stealing.  Spend $155 and not only do you get a fabulous party shoe, but you get to be the star of the show!

Me-in-Mind Baby Gear

"The concept behind Me-In-Mind was simple; we thought by instilling elastic features,
soft soles, and funky-hip styling into outdated childrens shoe designs we could create footwear
that not only looked cool, but also had technical features parents would appreciate. With this
in mind, our first pair of shoes was created in 2004.

Today, our simple idea continues to grow.  We offer a creative array of functional designs
that keep boys and girls looking great, while parents continue to smile from the benefits of our
idea and all the compliments they receive."
