Perfectly Perforated

Perforations are having a major moment this Spring, from the runways of top designers to local boutiques and family-owned businesses. Designers like Rebecca Taylor and Alexander Wang are showing off this trend in perforated leather ankle booties and punctured paneled tops. This is one of our favorite looks for the season, especially in footwear-- make a more covered style breathable for the warmer months ahead with punctured or laser cut details! Here is our take on perforated style from all your favorite designers here at Poppy & Stella, including Hobo the Original, Jeffrey Campbell, Me Too and more!

Me Too perforated bootie, $164
Jeffrey Campbell lace up bootie, $185
Born mango flats, $90

Whether you like to keep it neutral or prefer a bolder color palate, we can help you find your perfect perforated piece for Spring 2014! Even more styles to come!

Preppy Chic

Who says preppy style has to be all top siders and Polo?  There is a new wave of preppies taking the stage this summer.  The "Nouveau preppies" embrace the classics and add their own spin.  According to InStyle,
"Nouveau preppy is sporty, upbeat, and--thank goodness--a little sexier than what Winky or Muffy would wear.  It's perfect for weekends, whether you summer in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, or Bayside, Queens, or the San Francisco Bay Area.  Inspried by waht some wear to 'the club', these togs definitely push the 'house rules'"

Mix and match traditional masculine styles with ultra girly ones, like a button down oxford over a bikini. Another nouveau look, take one traditionally preppy element and pair it with something a little more funky, like a tennis dress with a color-block platform sandal.  When it comes to color go bright or go home, and play around with fit, boyfriend chinos have a chic-slouchiness.

You're making me blush!

Sweeping the runways is this "soft and feminine universally flattering and versitile shade" perfect for wall flowers that want to flirt with boldness.

According to InStyle:
"Generally considered ultra-girlie, the hue, somewhere between pale pink and champagne, can also come off as sophisticated--even edgy.  It adds personality to an ensemble without being loud."
This shade works well as an all over look, mix and match textures and fabrics to add depth and interest.  Not into all over pink, pair with gray or camel for a soft look, or use it to break up bold shades like black and scarlet. Work in neutrals and metallics for your accessories and you will find yourself blushing all night long with the compliments you'll receive.

Surfer Girl

Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world, especially when you're laid back in your style and your attitude.  While we may not all have that California girl beachy blonde hair and blue eyes, we can still emulate her style.

This relaxed look is the epitome of summer. String bikinis, bright colors, and of course stellar sandals.  You don't have to try too hard to pull this off.  Frayed jean shorts or boyfriend cut denim, paired with a bikini top and a loose fitting graphic tee are signature surfer girl style.  Girly it up by wearing a bright colored maxi and a cute hoodie on those breezy cool beach nights.  Stick to a less is more rule and enjoy the wind in your hair, sand under your toes, and the sun shining down on your skin.

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

Chain, chain, chain....chain of fools, yes you might be joining the chain gang should you choose to fall in love with these Manolo Blahnik Chain-Toe Quilted flats. Mr. Blahnik you've done it again, creating a shoe with style and sophistication that surely Carrie Bradshaw would approve (although I don't know if she ever wore flats).  Patent leather caps, soft, quilted napa leather, the golden chain links on vamp and creamy leather padded lining, what's a girl to do except be a fool over these flats?!? The only foolish element of these flats is the price, $715, you will be working the chain gang for a while to pay these puppies off.
Manolo Blahnik, $715

The chain link toe is definitely a must right now, but paying $715 for it is not, which is why it's great that Jeffrey Campbell gives us this option.  You have to give up the quilting and the patent, but I think with the extra sparkly chain links it is a fair trade off. Only $109 ladies! Thank you Jeffrey Campbell for keeping feet fashionable and wallets full!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

It's New Year's eve and you're ready to bid 2010 a fond farewell and welcome 2011 with open arms. The plans are made, the dress code is set and you want to do it in style. Now is the time to pull out all the stops, no risk, no reward, no glitz, no glory.

The Cure: Take your LBD to the next level!

A little sparkle never hurt anyone, but too much of a good thing could have you looking like a disco ball.  Go with an LBD that has a little bit of embellishment, something like this dress with embellished shoulders, then use your accessories to go all out.  Chunky jeweled cuffs and earrings create drama and interest, don't be afraid to use them to add color as well.  Choose a clutch that's fun and flirty, a great way to add personality to your look and another great way to incorporate color.  As for the shoes, yep time to shine, an embellished pair, like these from Jeffrey Campbell will have you dancing your way out of 2010 right into 2011.

Be Stylish, Be Safe, and worry about the side effects tomorrow, Happy New Year!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

Looking for the perfect party shoe, the one that will leave them speechless and standing with applause as you walk through the door?  Look no further, Christian Louboutin has the answer for you!   The satin platform peep toe with crystalized butterfly strass vamp is quite possibly the "it" shoe for any LBD. For only $1995 you can make this dream, reality. Simply stunning right, the star of the show?!?
Christian Louboutin, Margi Diams Strass, $1995
If your willing to compromise, as I usually am, I have an understudy of a shoe that will suit those LBDs and give a stellar performance.  This sparkly suede heel t-strap from Jeffrey Campbell emulates all of the same qualities as the Louboutin without being scene stealing.  Spend $155 and not only do you get a fabulous party shoe, but you get to be the star of the show!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Mother Nature shouldn't be the only one sporting snowy white this season, the oft after Memorial Day shade is wearable now too! Lucky magazine suggests choosing soft and relaxed shapes, adding shots of camel and heather, and mixing and matching textures like silk and faux fur.

Neutrals, metallics, and chocolate brown hues to warm your toes help create depth and don't be afraid to mix white and off white shades together.  Look cool and collected wearing winter white all the while staying warm and cozy!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

This weekend your off to do some wine tasting with the girls. There's nothing like sharing delicious gossip with good friends and good spirits! You want to look nice, but not be overly dressy and you don't want to tip the scales too far into the casual range either.

The cure: Harmony from head to toe.
Keep the balance by using different fabrics, accessories, and cuts.  Take a nice pair of denim, like these JBrand Love Storys, with a wider leg and snug fit around the hips and top it with printed blouse. The billowiness of the blouse balances the fit of the denim and also helps to dress it up just a bit.  Wear a scarf around your neck, cute stud earrings, and some embellished but low heeled pumps.  Notice the shoes balance themselves, these Jeffrey Campbells have a lower heel, and a distressed look, but are accented with cute buckles on the toe.  The scarf and the earrings cancel each other out. Pull it all together with a peacoat in case it gets chilly, it's a great go-to coat for any occasion.

Side effect: A balanced ensemble does not mean all over equilibrium, make sure you balance what you drink to keep everything in check.

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

Rachel Zoe once said, "ba-na-nas" and these shoes from Chloe are the epitome of her exclamation.  She highlighted this particular pair of wedges in her Zoe Report from last week stating,

"Seeing that elevation is the first characteristic I notice in my own footwear—closely followed by material and comfort level—it is no wonder that I have appointed Chloé's Enola Two Toned Wedges as my shoes du jour!
While I don't necessarily like to play favorites when it comes to accessories—these wedges will definitely be glued to my feet throughout the fall and winter season. Between their knock-you-off-your-feet (literally) structure, luxe python detailing and convenient ankle strap, they define the meaning of ba-na-nas".

She continues to report that while these shoes are sure to be the center of attention it's best to pair them with simpler pieces like a sweater dress and opaque tights. All of this sounds fabulous except that her beloved "shoes du jour" are $1095.

Her suggestion for a more realistic approach?  Our very own Jeffrey Campbell Amaeke Suede Wedges! At only $115, these wedges give us the height, drama, and dual tones coveted by Rachel Zoe in the Chloe wedge.  Sounds like a winning combination to me!
