Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

White denim, oh white denim, you are on trend and yet something about you seems to frighten people.  White denim is not as difficult to pull off as one may think, the key to this summer staple is to ensure that the white denim isn't the standout piece of the outfit.

The Cure: Present Prints!

white denim

If you're going to go with white denim, choose a very bold print for the top.  This will draw the attention of the eye upwards, making it the focus of the outfit.  Complement the colors in the top with accessories and go for a very neutral shoe, again keeping the focus of the outfit with the top.

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

Looking to add a little bit of sparkle to your laid back shorts or maxi dresses??? I've got just the solution!  The Loeffler Randall Mignon Knotted flat sandal is a twinkling "10"! The metallic leather sandal has multi-straps knotted across the vamp and ankle with a zip back for easy wear.  What isn't a "10" about this shoe is the price, $325.
Loeffler Randall, $325

I do have another "10" in mind, perhaps it is even an "11"!  The Kelsi Dagger  Kassa flat sandal provides pure panache.  Instead of knots this multi-strap sandal criss-crosses across the vamp.  Straps delicately wrap around the ankle and a back zipper allows for easy on and off. Like the Loeffler Randall, a sliver wedge offers a little lift.  What makes this sandal an "11"?  The price!!! At just $84 you get a lot of bang for your buck!

Merry in Marigold

"If you're drawn to marigold, you are high-spirited and idealistic," says Kate Smith, the expert behind Sensationalcolor.com.  "You live life with optimism."  Sounds about right, to me this shade just shouts and showcases a sparkling and sunny disposition.
According to InStyle this shade is so great because it's "Richer than lemon but less in your face than taxicab yellow, the tone in surprisingly easy to adopt, even in a sheath."

marigold

Go for a dress, pleated skirt, bathing suit, sweater, this is an easy color to pull off.  Pair with a neutral gray for a clean modern look, with white for an "innocent vibe" or black to make it edgy.  Accessorize with texture, woven brown leathers or geometric wooden shapes.  Let your sunny disposition shine through!

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Do you ever have those days when you walk into your closet and stand there for at least five minutes, saying to yourself "I have nothing to wear"? Days where you just feel uninspired with your clothes?  As a common occurrence among women I think there are two solutions, one, go buy new clothes, or two, get creative.  How can you re-invent the wardrobe you already own?

The Cure: Mix and Match

Do not be afraid to put together pieces you would have never thought about putting together before!  Yes while this may take some trial and error, as long as you have the time to spare why not experiment?!? For example, pair a lady like jacket with cut-off shorts.  Never thought about that one did you? But it looks super put-together once you put it together.  My advice for a successful look, take one dressed up piece, one dressed down piece, add some basics, choose a fabulous shoe that falls somewhere in the middle of the dressy range and see what you come up with.  What's the worst that can happen? Try something, it doesn't work, switch a piece out, you just may surprise yourself.

Side Effects: Test drive an outfit by sending a pic to a friend, if they don't approve, don't leave the house, it's back to the drawing board for you!

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

I am again afflicted by the demure designs by Valentino this spring.  This "casual optional" espadrille wedge is an "unexpected mix of glossy patent and jaunty jupe", splendid for any seasonal soiree but burdensome on the billfold.  While the asymmetrical bow that balances atop the peep-toe patent vamp is delightfully dressy the $475 sticker is slightly startling.
Valentino, $475
Don't, however, be discouraged.  The Corso Como "Eartha" espadrille is equally engaging.  With a similar sling-back style, the "Eartha" opts for a matte metallic and a criss-cross peep-toe instead of a bow.  The shimmery spin on a vintage look is well worth the $109 value.

Put your mind and feet at ease...

The Kork-Ease Story, Kork-Ease

The Original. Since 1953.
More than a half century ago, the Kork-Ease legacy began as nothing more than an idea in Brooklyn, New York.  What started as an idea, quickly turned into a new way people thought about their footwear.  The Wedge was born.
Sooo comfy and super adorable! A great basic wedge for summer! $144

An Instant Classic.

Turn the clocks to the 1970s, and you couldn't turn the corner of any street without seeing someone wearing a pair of Kork-Ease Sandals.  Many Brands tried to copy our sandals, but none could adequately duplicate our style or success.

The Original Kork-Ease Wedge has been immortalized in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Landmark Shoe Collection -- an honor bestowed to only 25 styles of footwear all-time.
A foot friendly t-strap sandal perfect for summer strolls. $126

This gold slide will make your feet shimmer. $126

A Natural Evolution
Kork-Ease fashions much of its footwear with Vachetta leather to achieve a distinct sophistication.

Ecological, biodegradable and environmentally safe, Vachetta is naturally tanned exclusively in Tuscany.  The crisp Tuscan springs possess the only water in the world that can tan the Vachetta leather to the perfect color and texture.

Because it's untreated and unfinished, Vachetta leathers develop a rich, lustrous patina over time.  The natural patina showcases a delicate sophistication, and a one-of-a-kind look.
Surprisingly comfortable and incredibly cute on! $145

A square heeled sandal made for walking on sunshine. $148

A fabulous slide in an even more fabulous color. $142

Anchors Aweigh!

The ever trendy nautical nuances in fashion are making themselves known again.  Reds and blues, stripes and plaids, and even creatures from the sea are starting to make waves.

nautical

Easy to incorporate into any wardrobe, keep the color palette patriotic, highlighting white and blue especially.  Not into inspirations a la the American flag? Focus more on grey and white, throwing in either a dab of blue or a spot of red.  Stick with stripe patterns either thick or thin and accessorize with woven bags, espadrille wedges and sailing inspired jewelry.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

I don't know about you, but I am so ready for the spring weather to just stick around for awhile!  Regardless of the temperatures these days, I have transitioned full force and try to incorporate some aspect of spring trends into my wardrobe everyday.  Obviously it is a little too soon to start showing too much skin in shorts and tank tops, but a little bit of change can go a long way!  How to transition you ask?

The Cure: Go to great lengths!
The maxi dress is the perfect item for this wavering transition period between seasons.  You can layer over it for cooler days, or leave the cardi at home when the sun is shining.  Keep your feet a little more covered with a peep-toe wedge while temperatures are fickle and then bare all in a great strappy sandal when it is wonderfully warm out.  The maxi is a transition must have!

Side effects: Make sure you find a maxi that flatters your shape, we are talking maxi in terms of length, not volume, don't let your maxi be a mumu

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

This week Sergio Rossi is serving as my muse. With cut-out silhouettes on the rise these are certainly my dream shoe of the week.  "Intricate laser cutting opens the silhouette, flattering the leg with an artisan design and statement height".  Neutral in color to help elongate the leg, the topstitching sophistically showing-off the cut-outs and the open toe helps to balance the zipper back.  Simply divine right?!? Unfortunately it might take some divine intervention to swing the cost of these $890 beauties, sigh.

Sergio Rossi, $890
Lucky for me Sam Edelman has an equally divine cut-out bootie. This caged-wedge bootie has a tie-up front and intricately woven leather for that cut-out look making  it a definite statement shoe.  Again the peep toe balances the the back zipper and the shoe is grounded with a chunky wooden wedge.  At just $209 the price is nice to boot (no pun intended).  I think my feet will be "open" to spring with these.

Sam Edelman "Kellan", $209

Cobalt Craze

How about a new hot hue for spring? Cobalt blue has been seen all over the runways from Mulberry to Rachel Roy.  Why is is so great you might ask?  According to InStyle Magazine,
" 'Cobalt is the new black!' declares Mulberry creative director Emma Hill.  Brighter than navy, deeper than royal blue, it adds a splash to everything from Ts to silky dresses".
Cobalt can be worked into your wardrobe quite easily this season. It easily pairs well with white, lemon, and lilac.  For a bolder look add a dash of turquoise.  Accessorize with gunmetal  or silver jewelry and go neutral with your footwear for a look that is sleek and chic.
"When going with monochromatic cobalt, avoid frills in favor of clean, sleek lines.  Nude tones can be an understated extra. 'Cobalt is a shade that works with denim too,' says Hill, who chose slightly darker indigo boots for a "color-dipped effect" at her recent show".

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

Wedding season is just around the corner, which means bridal showers, luncheons, and weddings galore!  Do you have your go to outfit for those garden party soirees?  In most cases, nothing can be more girly than a bridal shower or a garden party.  You want to go for polka dots this season and embrace the girly/retro vibe. How do you pull off polka dots and avoid looking like Minnie Mouse?

The cure: Dainty in Dots
First and foremost if you're going to go for polka dots, avoid the boring black and white, look for something with color! This dress is the perfect example, it has a great classic, simple silhouette with neckline pleats and a cinched waist, but it totally modern in its teal shade with chartreuse dots.  Layer over with a cute boyfriend sweater in a complimenting shade, and of course accentuate the waste with a great neutral belt.  Stick with earrings only and go for a great retro shoe like this peep-toe clog from Seychelles.  You have a retro, yet modern, totally girly look.

Fantasy Fashion Becomes Reality

There are definitely days, especially in the summer, when I want nothing more than to be as girly as can be.  Cute summery dress, with an adorable pair of shoes showing off my perfectly pedicured toes.  There is quite a difference between girly and looking like a little girl, there needs to be a certain air of sophistication.  That's where my friend (well I wish he were my friend) Valentino comes in.  The Couture Bow pump oozes with sass but is tamed by the sweet, signature bow on the toe. In red or black patent or all over lace it is the wear-with-all girly shoe.  At $855 my girly tastes might be set a little high.

Valentino, $855

My girly radar has led me to a similar kitten heel peep toe, complete with bow AND hand made in Italy.  The Cass30 from Butter comes complete with all requirements.  In a natural basic hue, the punch of color comes from the bow, giving this girly shoe a little bit of an edge. At $253 it may still be pricey for some, but the quality and style are well worth it for a shoe that is sure to be a staple for years to come.

Butter, $253

Go On...Get Girly!

This summer break out the playful retro girly side to your wardrobe.  Bright greens, reds, navy, and yellow with a splash of polka dots and a smattering of stripes are sweet spots for the season.  Bows, hearts, and rhinestones coupled with pearls and clutches are truly classic, cutesy, and coquettish.  The 50's inspired silhouettes can be "daringly Lolita-esque",  subtle yet sexy and surprisingly swanky.

Fashion Rx: Your weekly dose of what to wear!

So this season has been showcasing white is a wild way and the latest trend is the LWD or the Little White Dress.  The thing with white dresses they can sometimes be difficult to keep crisp and clean.  It's a shame they've gotten such a bad rap because they so easy to accessorize.  Embrace it ladies, this trend is everywhere!

The Cure: Layering the LWD

This look from Anthropologie starts with a cotton maxi sectioned into pleated tiers and detailed with crocheted pinwheels for a breezy boho chic look.  Layer with a linen-blend blazer and accessorize with texture and color. A  pom pom edged plaid scarf, and jewelry with beautiful baubles add brilliant bursts of boldness.  Finish the look with a great pair of leather mules keeping with the bohemian vibe.

Side Effects: If you plan to wear this to a BBQ make sure to pack your pocket size stain removal to stay safe.
